Thanks for sharing this wonderful story of Hsinchu pork meatballs. I was raised in Hsinchu and gong-wan(the meatballs)are something like what I grew up with,yet I didn't even know the story.
Speaking of food, If you need recipe for your favorite chinese food ba-si-di-gua, deep-fry sweet potato with malt sugar crusted, just say a word.
